First Home Buyer Series: Pre-Purchase Stage
Ashlea Guest:
If you’re unsure with the financial stuff, get a mortgage broker. We couldn’t have done it without our mortgage broker. We were useless like, we were just like, where do we sign? Like honestly.
Andrew Guest:
Yeah, basically.
Ashlea:
We really, she did all of our, like research and you know, explained a lot of things to us that were like okay. We had no idea what she’s talking about but we were just like, I felt safe having her being in charge of the finances.
Andrew:
Yeah, we were so much confident on how… After one meeting with her, we were so much confident of our financial situation so…
Ashlea:
Yep, she looked after us, so get a mortgage broker.
Andrew:
Yeah.
Erica Sachse:
So you guys kind of basically did all the research beforehand and then kind of went there and said, “Okay, I want to buy here.”
Andrew:
Yeah.
Ashlea:
We made the decision pretty much before we’d been there
Andrew:
Yeah. We don’t feel we rushed into anything so…
Ashlea:
No, not at all. And they have like a proposed primary school and things like – there were so much things that they were building up there that we were really happy to be like, within walking distance with a primary school for when we have kids and there’s like, a good shops like right around the corner, which we knew was gonna happen and yeah, it was like a nice estate.
Erica:
And so right now, it’s 2018 when was this?
Ashlea:
Two thousand and – I wanna say 2015?
Andrew:
Yeah.
Ashlea:
‘Cause we got married in 2016 and we just had our two-year wedding anniversary. So, 2015 was. All this research happened.
Andrew:
Yeah.
Erica:
Mmhm, and then you put a deposit down on the land, and when was the land supposed to be ready?
Ashlea:
March, two thousand and sixteen.
Ashlea:
Was it March?
Andrew:
In reality, the title was then about November or September.
Ashlea:
No, no, it was March, two thousand and…
Andrew:
It was about six months late, yeah
Ashlea:
Yeah, yeah. We were expecting-
Andrew:
We were warned about – we knew that it was gonna be late. Even the sales office lady said, “Look it’s supposed to, but it always takes a little bit longer”
Ashlea:
Yeah, and we were with mum, like living with mum’s. So, it was more time to save, more time to organise things, more time to get our stuff together, so it wasn’t like we were renting and wasting money while we were.
Erica:
So, you pretty much moved in with mum right when you put the deposit down?
Ashlea:
Yep.
Ashlea:
Pretty much.
Erica:
Yeah, it was like, that was it.
Andrew:
That was a decision we’d made before we put the deposit down as well, that we would…
Ashlea:
That he made.
Andrew:
…that we would try and save money as – where we could, yeah
Ashlea:
It was a good decision.
